Sun Safety for Children

When the weather is warm, and the sun is shining brightly, children love to spend time outdoors, playing and splashing in the pool. But spending prolonged amounts of time exposed to harmful UV sun rays can damage their delicate skin. The following paragraphs will discuss SPF clothing, as well as some sun safety tips, for keeping your children safe in the sun.

First, in order to protect your child's sensitive skin from prolonged exposure to harmful UV sun rays, you should avoid allowing them to remain in the sun for prolonged periods of time when the sun is at his highest point (usually between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM) without wearing sun protection clothing of some sort. There are many types of sun protection clothes available to protect your child including:

•  kid rash guards

•  toddler rash guards

•  long sleeve rash guards

•  sun protection shirts

•  sun protection swimwear

Do not let cloudy skies fool you because harmful UV rays travel right through the clouds. Be sure to apply a protective sunscreen on the areas of skin the sun protection clothing does not cover.

The most effective way to protect your child's skin from sun damage is to insist they wear sun protection clothes of some type when playing outside or swimming. Kids rash guards will not only prevent harmful UV rays from reaching the protected area of your child's skin, but it will also help prevent rash from sweating, pool chemicals, and other factors that may cause an irritating rash on your child. Because younger children have thinner skin, special toddler rash guards are available for smaller children.

Finally, a good sun block product should be applied consistently, even if the product claims to be water resistant. All areas of your child's skin that is not covered by a rashguard or other type SPF clothing should be protected by sun block. It is always a good idea to apply the sun block before you go outside, to give it a chance to soak into your child's skin.

Most children love to spend time outside when the weather will allow. When allowing your child to play in the sun, whether they are swimming, or swing on the tire swing, it is wise to have them protected with some sort of kid rashguard or other sun protection clothing.
